Eco-Friendly Colorado Neighborhoods Through the Years: Arvada’s Geos –
Energy bills can skyrocket depending on the season. What if there was a way to develop renewable energy that can limit energy surges? Developing renewable energy is booming in Colorado. Being energy efficient not only helps the environment, it also can be more cost effective. The city of Arvada has worked with Geos development for renewable energy. Within the neighborhoods “Every home in the Geos Neighborhood is not only designed to meet this requirement, but they actually produce more energy than needed, which means they are “energy-plus” homes.” This surplus of energy is amazing and could eventually lead into people not needing to purchase gas for their car.
Affordability will always come to mind when developing something new. Geos have some homes with a price point of $390,000. Creating a whole neighborhood built on renewable energy can work with a helpful community of people. Affordability and showing that a system works will attract people towards Geos. “40 percent of energy in the US is consumed by buildings.” With this in mind, having buildings not use fossil fuels helps save money and the environment. Trees will essentially be saved and that will also continue to help the environment. New residential areas in California are now being informed that hey must have a zero net energy during 2020. Colorado wants they Geos residents to have a one-stop shop for services. This means access to health care, education, and financial services in one area. This zero energy plan has been in the works for about 2 years now. It is worth noting that this should be explored more to take it nationwide. Government will always regulate projects. Once it can be fully affordable and regulated then expect the future to be bright with minimal consequences.
